GUNS & GULAABS *****

Season 1 | 7 Episodes

Watched on #Netflix

Language: Hindi

Verdict: Smooch

I travelled recently to Bahamas. No no, that is not the highlight of this at all. But before I could leave the nation, I downloaded all episodes of Guns and Gulabs. Ofcourse so that I could watch the same… BINGE watch.

And my oh my, is it worth binge watching!

Everything about the series… from the characters, to dialogues, to mannerisms of each character is something that will stay with you.

They didn’t go out of the way to tell you that it is an 80’s story but it grows on you eventually. The songs, the old ways, the jhankaar beats cassettes, the typical style of dressing and something you could not ignore at all… their hair styles!

Arjun played by Dulquer Salmaan, Paana Tipu played by Rajkumar Rao and Chaar Cut Atmaram played by Gulshan Devaiah are the highlights of the entire series.

The innocent love affair of Tipu, the ruthlessly of Atmaram and the shrewdness of Arjun all are laid out in the open without any complexities for you to understand.

Don’t watch it for a take home. There is nothing to take home except for the fact that Raj & DK really know their craft. And what saved them is the impeccable casting. Adarsh Gourav as Jugnu a.k.a Chohotu Ganchi and TJ Bhanu as Lekha and Satish Kaushik as Senior Ganchi all were splendid.

The parallel story of the kids was fused and married love with the adults of the film. Everything slipped into each other so comfortably that it was like watching a Malayalam Film NOT made by a Malayalee...

Ah um, we mallus are very proud of our films for its script and style fo narration. Raj & DK I do hereby knight thee into the Honorable Order of being a Malayalee of the Highest order. Arise and be recognized.

If you are okay with some basic gore and gaali galoch and want to reminiscence the 80’s in its own delectable fashion then this series is for you.

Dulquer abusing was the cutest abuse ever. And every single time he comes to screen he makes the world such a delicious place to live in 😊

Sorry I am a Malayalee in awe of him and his sheer talent and ease in which he fits so well into Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu and now even Hindi scripts.

This is a series I don’t mind watching again and again! Awaiting the next season ONLY if it carries forward the same casts.
